Lines & Lineage

A line is a named group of rabbits you decide on and assign yourself — "Willow line", "meat line", "the show does" — not something OmniBurrow works out from the pedigree. That is deliberate: only you know which animals you actually think of as a family. Once rabbits are assigned, OmniBurrow compares those families on average daily gain, dress-out percentage, and show legs, and lets you filter the analytics to one line at a time.

What a line is​

A line is a name, an optional description, and an optional colour. Rabbits become members by being assigned to it, each with an optional role describing what that rabbit is in the line — foundation buck, producing doe, whatever vocabulary you use.

Membership has a start date and can be ended without deleting anything, so a rabbit that leaves a line keeps its history there rather than vanishing from it. A rabbit's current line shows on its own record.

Lines are independent of pedigrees. Two rabbits in the same line need not be related, and relatives can sit in different lines. If you want the genetic relationship instead, that is COI, which is calculated from the pedigree itself.

Create a line​

Lines are managed from the Analytics hub. Go to Dashboard → Analytics → Lines and click New line, then give it a name and, if you want, a description and colour.

Clicking a line in the table opens its members.

Assign rabbits​

Assignment is per rabbit. A rabbit's record shows the line it is currently in, so in practice one line per rabbit is what you want.

From a rabbit's profile, use the line control to assign it to a line and set its role. You can also work the other way round, opening a line from the Lines tab and managing its members there.

What lines unlock​

  • The lines dashboard. One row per line: how many rabbits are in it, average daily gain, average dress-out percentage, and show legs won. This is the comparison that tells you which family is actually earning its cage space.
  • A filter across the analytics. Most analytics dashboards take a line filter alongside breed, so you can ask production, feed, and show questions about one family at a time.
  • A filter on your herd. On the mobile app, the rabbits list filters by line, which is the fastest way to see every animal in a family.

Lines are worth setting up early. The comparison is only as useful as the number of animals in each line, so a line with two rabbits in it will not tell you much until the season's litters are assigned too.
