Maintenance Tools

Most of what OmniBurrow calculates — inferred genetics, inbreeding coefficients — updates itself as you edit records. The maintenance tools are for the times that is not enough: after a big import, after a pedigree clean-up, or when the same rabbit has ended up in your herd twice.

When to use these​

You should not need them often. Reach for them when:

  • You have just imported a lot of records. Genetics and COI are inferred from lineage, and a large import changes a lot of lineage at once.
  • You have fixed parentage. Correcting a sire or dam changes every descendant's pedigree, and a refresh makes the calculated values catch up in one pass rather than gradually.
  • You are seeing gaps — rabbits with no inbreeding coefficient, or genetics that look stale against what you know.

Merge duplicate rabbits​

Merging is not on the tools screen — it lives on the rabbit's own record, under its actions, on both apps. That is deliberate: you merge a specific pair, starting from one of them.

Every record that pointed at the duplicate is re-pointed to the survivor: weights, health events, treatments, litters it parented, show entries, sales, deposits, feed allocations, line memberships, transfers, and its place in other rabbits' pedigrees. Blank fields on the survivor are filled in from the loser, with the survivor's own values always winning. You confirm by typing the loser's name.

Merging cannot be undone

There is no unmerge. The two records become one, and the merged-away rabbit is removed. Check you have the survivor the right way round before you confirm — the dialog lets you swap which one is kept.

Merge needs a connection

It is online-only on both apps, and on the phone the rabbit must have finished syncing first. The merge re-points records across your whole account at once, which is not something the phone can do on its own.

Fix parentage​

There is no separate tool for this — you fix a parent by editing the rabbit and setting the correct sire or dam. That is all it takes, because pedigrees are generated from parent links rather than stored as documents, so every descendant's pedigree is correct from that moment.

What does not update instantly is the calculated data hanging off those links. That is what the refresh tools below are for.

Refresh genetics​

Dashboard → Tools has two:

  • Recalculate inferred genetics — rebuilds stored inferred genetics across the herd from the latest lineage evidence.
  • Backfill missing COI — computes and stores an inbreeding coefficient for rabbits that have none, oldest first so descendants benefit from up-to-date ancestors.

A herd-wide genetics refresh runs in the background. You start it, the app tells you it has been queued, and you carry on — it does not block the screen, and the results appear when it finishes. On a large herd that is not instant.

All of these need a connection.

What these tools do not do​

Worth being clear about, so you do not go looking:

  • They do not invent data. A refresh recalculates from the records you have. If a pedigree is shallow, its COI stays shallow — see Predict Offspring.
  • They do not fix bad parentage. Only you know which sire was wrong. Fix the link, then refresh.
  • They do not clean up duplicates automatically. Merging is always a decision you make about a specific pair.
  • There is no undo. A refresh is safe to re-run, but a merge is permanent.
