Barn Scan

Mobile only

Barn Scan is a Mobile App feature. It uses the phone's camera and works fully offline.

Barn Scan turns weighing and health rounds into one loop you never leave: scan a cage card's QR code, type the weight, save — and the camera re-arms for the next cage. No searching for the rabbit between animals, no signal required, and everything queues through the same outbox as anything else you record offline.

What you need

  • Cage cards with QR codes on the hutches. Print them from a rabbit's record or a filtered batch from the rabbits list — see Cage Cards.
  • Camera permission. The first time you open a scan screen the phone asks; if the camera does not appear, grant it in system settings and reopen the screen.

No connection is needed for any of it.

Scan for weights

  1. Tap + (Quick Log) → Scan to weigh, or open the scan screen and choose weights.
  2. Point the camera at a cage card. The rabbit is identified from the code.
  3. Type the weight and save.
  4. The camera re-arms on its own. Move to the next cage.

Weights recorded this way are ordinary weight records — they build the same growth history, average daily gain, and projected butcher date as anything entered by hand. See Weights & ADG.

Scan for health

  1. Tap + (Quick Log) → Scan for health, or open the scan screen and choose health.
  2. Set up the event once — the type, the title, the notes.
  3. Scan each rabbit in turn.

The same event is applied to every rabbit you scan. That is the point of the mode: a preventative given to a whole row is one setup and a dozen scans, not a dozen forms. See Health Events.

Undo a mistake

Scanned the wrong cage, or fat-fingered a weight? Undo last removes the most recent entry. It uses the normal delete path, so the record goes exactly where a manually deleted one would — nothing special is left behind.

When a scan does not match

If a code will not read — a torn card, bad light, a card printed for a rabbit you have since deleted — the app offers Search manually. Type a name or ear tag, pick the rabbit from the results, and carry on in the same session without losing your place.

Barn Scan is tolerant about what it accepts: a full web profile URL, an app deep link, or a bare record ID all resolve to the right animal, so cards printed by either app at any time keep working. Cards for litters scan too.

If the camera itself is the problem, see Camera & Scanning.
